It is advised and recommended that an upper bunk is not suitable for children under the age of six. This is due to the risk of injury from falls. Over this age parents know their child best.
Whilst lower bunks are suitable for younger children that no longer require a cot style bed. It's important that they are of an age and able to understand and conform with not climbing up either the bed frame, or the ladder/stairs. If necessary, please block off access to the upper bunk.
It's important to ensure your child/children understand the importance of bunk bed safety. Whilst they are fun and exciting, it's important that they understand that it can't be played on, or treated like a climbing frame. It's also important that they know not to lean over the top bunk, or to play on the ladder.
Also, that the ladder must be used at all times, and also to do so carefully. Only one child should be on the top bunk at once.
Bunk beds and high beds can present a serious risk of injury from strangulation if not used correctly. Never attach or hang items to any part of the bunk bed that are not designed to be used with the bed, for example, but not limited to ropes, strings, cords, hooks, belts and bags.
Children can become trapped between the bed and the wall, a roof pitch, the ceiling, adjoining pieces of furniture (e.g.cupboards) and the like. To avoid risk of serious injury the distance between the top safety barrier and the adjoining structure shouldn't exceed 75mm or shall be more than 230mm.
Do not use the bunk bed or high sleeper bed if any structural part is broken or missing.
It is recommended that you always follow the instructions to assemble the bed. If you are unsure in relation to any aspect, please contact us during office hours.
Always follow the manufacturer's recommended mattress size, as per these instructions and the maximum mattress height marking on the item.
It is necessary to frequently ventilate the room in order to keep the humidity low and to prevent mould in and around any bed.
Please periodically check all the fixings of the item and re-tighten when necessary.
Bunk beds in the UK must conform to the current safety regulations British Safety Standard BS EN747:2012 + A1 2015. Our bunk beds all conform to this, and they are independently tested and certified.
