Bunk Beds safety guidelines
A common question we get asked by parents is what is the right age for a child to move into a bunk bed, and are bunk beds safe.
Children are the most precious things in our lives, their safety is paramount to us at Sleepland Beds. Therefore we have selected only the safest bunk beds from either known brands, independent brands, and our own Sleepland range which includes a selection of bunk beds with storage. We have a variety of bunks with storage and trundle, and also our Cosmos triple bunk bed which is double size lower bed with two storage drawers included.
When assessing whether a child is ready for bunk beds, parents know their children best. We recommend the top bunk beds for children aged 6 and over, however it also depends upon the child as everyone is different.
Is your child grown and mature enough to:
Safely climb up and down the bunk bed ladder.
Know it's dangerous to jump up and down on the bunk bed.
Understands to use the ladder and not climb or jump off.
These are the considerations I took into consideration to decide if my children were mature enough for a bed with a ladder.
Bunk beds by law need to meet the current bunk beds safety legislation The Bunk Beds (Entrapment Hazards) (Safety) Regulations 1987 and EN regulations.
Extra safety:
It is also important to remember when measuring a room for bunk beds not to place them by large windows that can open. If you really have to please do ensure they have window locks. Check there are no blind or curtain cords hanging.
Sleepland Bunk Beds
Sleepland wooden bunk beds are some of the most solid, secure and child friendly bunk beds available. An important features to us is that the Sleepland bunk beds don't have high posts that children can hang things off and then get tangled up. None of our Sleepland range have this feature. Also the wooden bunk beds are curved in the same way as a bed frame with no posts at all.
All our bunk beds have a high rail around the entire top bunk. Our bunks have a slatted base which bolts directly into the side rail or onto an extra metal section, and the bunk bed frames are double bolted for extra security.
You are also able to use the Cola, Supersonic bunk beds, and our Cosmos bunk beds as two single beds either now, or in the future. You have our assurance whether you order a brand of bunk beds we offer or one of our own range, your son or daughter will be extra safe and secure.
