Bunk Beds safety guidelines

A common question we get asked by parents is what is the right age for a child to move into a bunk bed and are the bunk beds safe.

Children are the most precious things in our lives, their safety is paramount to us at Sleepland Beds. Therefore we have selected only the safest bunk beds.

When assessing whether a child is ready for bunk beds, parents know their children best. We recommend the top bunk beds for children aged 6 and over but it also depends upon the child as not every six year old is as mature as the next.

Is your child grown and mature enough to:

Safely climb up and down the bunk bed ladder.
Not jump up and down on the bunk bed
Understands to use the ladder and not climb or jump off.

If they are then generally they are old enough for bunk beds.

Bunk beds by law need to meet the current bunk beds safety legislation The Bunk Beds (Entrapment Hazards) (Safety) Regulations 1987.

Extra safety:

It is also important to remember when measuring a room for bunk beds not to place them by large windows that can open. If you really have to please do ensure they have window locks. Check there are no blind or curtain cords hanging.

Joseph Bunk Beds

We chose the Joseph bunk beds because they are one of the most solid, secure and child friendly bunk beds available. One of the most important features to us is that the bunk beds don't have high posts that children can hang things off and then get tangled up. The Joseph bunk beds are curved in the same way as a bed frame with no posts at all.

The Joseph bunk beds have a high rail around the entire top bunk. The slatted base screws directly into the side rail and the bunk bed frame is double bolted for extra security.

You are also able to use the Twin Joseph bunk beds as two single beds either now or in the future.

Bunk Beds Assembly:

It is also important that bunk beds are assembled correctly, the Joseph bunk beds come with full instructions. We have much experience with this therefore and we offer an assembly service on the Joseph three sleeper bunk beds, Joseph maple bunk beds and Joseph white bunk beds for a very small charge. You can check the bunk beds over and if you don't agree they are safe and secure (you can shake them firmly) we will take them back, the assembly service is payable on completion to ensure your satisfaction.

Kids love bunk beds, since I bought my oldest son the Joseph maple bunk beds he is better at going to bed on time as he felt all grown up and it was a novelty to go up the ladder to bed. His little brother still sleeps in our room in his fire engine bed but he still wanted bunk beds. We showed him all our beds and said he could pick any but he was insistent he wanted the bunk beds. The bunk beds are next to the light switch so he reads for a little while then turns the light off himself. He has his friends over often for sleepovers and one sleeps on the bottom bunk and the other on the under bed trundle. (sorry this isn't really anything to do with bunk beds safety)
