How many pocket springs should my pocket sprung mattress have?
Pocket springs are smaller springs than open coil springs. The minimum number of pocket springs for a supportive and comfortable sleep is an 800 pocket. Pocket spring counts are throughout the industry usually based on the 5ft kingsize mattress. Some pocket spring mattresses are two layers, making the spring count seem more. All our pocket spring counts are based on a single layer unless specified as otherwise.
What are pocket springs?
Rather than adjoined together as with a traditional spring. Pocket springs are sewn into their own individual pockets and sewn together so that each spring moves independently. A pocket sprung mattress supports your individual contours and weight.
Imagine them as lots of little pistons, when you place pressure on them each pocket reacts to your weight and position. When you move position they spring back and the new pocket springs you are laying on compress and so on.
