A divan bed is comprises of a base and a mattress. The base of the divan bed is either a platform base or sprung edge base. The top of a platform base divan is wood, this gives your mattress a firmer feel. The sprung edge base of a divan bed has a top layer of springs. This provides acts like a giant shock absorber for your mattress resulting in a softer feel. Thus ensuring your mattress moves with the bed rather than against it. This provides added comfort and also prolongs the life of your mattress by about 25%. It is not recommended to sit on the edge of a sprung base divan to often. Most of our divan beds are supplied with a platform base, the option of a sprung base is available with most divan bed. The only exceptions are luxury beds that come only with a sprung base or where a divan needs a platform base to perform better. If you prefer a firm bed I would recommend a platform base divan.
