Cheap Memory Foam Mattresses

Should I buy a Cheap Memory Foam Mattress?

There are hundreds and hundreds of memory foam mattresses on the market. Therefore should I go for the cheapest memory foam mattress I can find, isn't memory foam simply memory foam?. No, all memory foam mattresses are not equal and I could write pages and pages about this subject. There is a big difference between a "cheap" memory foam mattress and a "good value" memory foam mattress.

Price should I get the cheapest memory foam mattress?

Should I go for the "cheap" memory foam mattress? Or what about the one that is cheap and claiming it is as good as one costing ten times as much?. Now as with most things in life you get what you pay for. I am not saying go out and buy the most expensive memory foam mattress you can find. Some of the most expensive memory foam mattresses were beaten hands down in the Which magazine best mattress awards.

The best mattress winners were Sleepshaper and Health beds memory foam mattresses. Health beds and Sleepshaper may not be so well known as they don't use expensive advertising they don't need to, their memory foam mattresses sell themselves. Whilst Health beds and Sleepshaper aren't "cheap" they are a lot cheaper than some of the more well known brands such as Tempur, yet they won for the last two years and Tempur were near the bottom.

Aren't you just saying cheap memory is bad because you want us to buy your memory foam mattresses?

No, nothing could be further from that statement. Firstly our memory foam mattresses aren't over expensive, they are fantastic value. We could easily source "cheap" memory foam mattresses. However the simple fact is they would not be as good, wouldn't last long, give you the full benefit of memory foam, release bad chemicals, give you a bad back etc etc. We don't do that because although our bed company is like any other business and needs to make a profit to pay the staff. We have old fashioned values and pride ourselves on honesty, quality, longlasting products with value for money and giving you the best night's sleep possible.

Should I use density to determine the best memory foam mattress?

This is a common question and density is very important. The density of memory foam will be in more detail in our memory foam guide. I mention density here as we are determining "cheap" memory foam problems. Briefly memory foam density is the weight per cubic metre. The best density for optimum comfort is between 40kg and 60kg. However a "cheap" memory foam is not equal just because it has the same density as a quality memory foam mattress. Fillers can be used to create more weight so that a higher density can be stated.

We know that density primarily affects support and longevity of memory foam. It also affects the cost of the foam. Because of this, some manufacturers use additives to increase the weight of the foam and make you think it's a higher density than it really is. The problem with this approach is that additives can make foams more likely to tear, and can reduce foam durability. Additives, since they are not part of the actual foam cellular structure, can act as abrasives that break down foam cell walls, making foam lose more of its original properties through use.

While additives are cheaper for the manufacturers, they are bad for you! Companies can sell memory foam at higher retail prices, make more money, and sell you an inferior product. Or sell the memory foam mattress cheaply and sell more. Some additives are necessary to meet strict UK fire retardant regulation, but these are kept to a minimum with a quality memory foam. At Sleepland Beds you can rest assured that none of our memory foam mattresses whichever brand you choose has any fillers and is simply visco elastic memory foam. You can rest assured that with any of our memory, you get what you pay for (with the Sleepland Beds low prices giving you extra value so more for your money).

Depth of memory foam? Generally the best depth is between 5 and 10cm. The support is also important and a 10cm depth is not necessarily better than a 5cm. We do sell a few memory foam mattresses with a depth less than 5cm however the top layer of memory foam is there to give comfort combined with the other fillings rather than give the full pressure relieving benefits of memory foam.

I appreciate a quality memory foam mattresses isn't the cheapest mattress type to buy. Quality memory foam is expensive to produce. What if your budget won't stretch to a good quality memory foam mattress?

Rather than buy a cheap memory foam mattress I would consider a traditional sprung or pocket sprung mattress until you can afford a decent memory foam mattress. If you do buy a "cheap" memory foam mattress it may seem cheap at the time, however it won't be value for money and can be very disappointing.

At Sleepland Beds we offer better value for money and whichever memory foam mattress or memory foam bed you select you can be assured of fantastic value for money, high quality and super comfort.
